Also, the annoyance of typical overacting in the 60s movies doesn’t help. It becomes repetitive and monotonous in no time. A man trying to woo a girl by having someone dub for him would work as a comedy sidetrack but not as feature length film. In addition to it, it has type casted characters, template characteristics etc. ‘Padosan’ has a concept which is beaten to death by now.

That’s why people like Marx Brothers and Charlie Chaplin are considered true legends. So, in conclusion, to like a yesteryear comedy film, it has to be legendary, in the league of ‘Duck Soup’ or ‘The Great Dictator’. In the same league, one of my or may be my all-time favorite comedy ‘Thillu Mullu’ makes me difficult to even watch ‘Gol Maal’ because I’m so sure that it can’t beat ‘Thill Mullu’ which I don’t know how many numbers of times I’ve watched.

There could be a variety of reasons but the major one might be because I watched the Tamil movie first. Even when I tried to watch a relatively new film ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ which was remade as ‘Vasool Raja MBBS’ here, the original one couldn’t create much impact. May be its easier to like an old film which is of serious tone rather than the comedies because the plot becomes an important aspect there. Only when movies like this which don’t work for you, you get reminded of how great movies like ‘Sholay’ and ‘Deewar’ are, truly standing the test of time. I was very confident that it’s not gonna work but my sudden interest to old Hindi films spoilt me. My friend gave me huge hype for ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ which totally didn’t work for me. Otherwise its majorly about reminiscing the past. Comedies are serious business and its tough to stand the test of time and when it does, it shows how high the quality of the film is.
